Israel Says Six Fighters ‘Eliminated’ in Southern Lebanon Amid Rising Ceasefire Violations

Beirut/Jerusalem, April 24 2026. The Israel Defense Forces said they killed six fighters in Lebanon.
This is getting worse, along the Israel and Lebanon border.

There is a deal to stop fighting with Hezbollah a group supported by Iran.
The Israeli military said they did airstrikes and ground operations. They targeted what they called ” infrastructure and armed cells” near the border. The Israel Defense Forces said six fighters were killed.. They did not give more details about who these fighters were.

There were explosions in towns and villages in Lebanon. This happened in areas near the border where things have been tense for months. Lebanese authorities did not say exactly how many people were killed.. Security officials said several people died in Israeli strikes.

The ceasefire has been tested by both sides. The truce was made to stop fighting after the conflict in Gaza got worse in 2023.. It has not stopped the violence completely. The Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah blame each other for violating the agreement.

People in Lebanon saw a lot of aerial surveillance and drone activity before the strikes. They heard fighter jets and then explosions. Many families sought shelter because they were afraid of violence. Some villages near the border have had people leave because of the threat of violence.

The Israel Defense Forces say they are doing things in Lebanon to keep the Israel Defense Forces safe. The Israel Defense Forces want to stop Hezbollah fighters from getting too close to the border of Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces will keep doing things to stop what the Israel Defense Forces think are threats, from Hezbollah.

Hezbollah claims that the attacks made by Israel violate their sovereignty and the cease-fire accord. They promised retaliation for those attacks. Such a response may result in a war, one fought between Hezbollah and Israel.
The border of Israel and Lebanon has been destabilized because of the Gaza War that began in October 2023. Gaza War spread from its borders to other places. Daily fighting takes place between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah militants.

Analysts say the cycle of strikes and counterstrikes could undermine efforts. The United Nations and other governments have urged both sides to be careful and follow the ceasefire.

The United Nations is worried about the ceasefire being broken. They have warned that things could get much worse if this is not addressed.

People in Lebanon are struggling. The area is already facing problems and strain on infrastructure. The threat of airstrikes and shelling has disrupted life. Schools have closed sometimes. Farming has been affected.

The Israeli communities that are near the border are facing a lot of security problems. These communities have had to deal with rockets being fired at them and drones coming into their area from Hezbollah. To keep the communities safe Israel has taken some steps. Israel is making the shelters stronger. They are keeping soldiers in the area to protect the Israeli communities, from Hezbollah.

With the latest escalation it does not seem like there will be a full-scale conflict right now.. Analysts say the risk is still high. This could change if more people get killed or if either side does something in response.

The Israel Defense Forces uses the term “eliminated” when talking about killing fighters. This is language for them.. Others, including humanitarian groups disagree with this term. They want to make sure who is a fighter and who is not.

As of Friday evening people were still trying to verify that six fighters were killed. Lebanese authorities have not given a list of who was killed. It is hard to get to some areas because of security concerns.
The news we are getting now shows that the situation, between Israel and Lebanon is very fragile and complex. Something small can. Then Israel and Lebanon can have a big conflict. Israel and Lebanon have a history of problems. It does not take much for things to get bad.The international community is watching closely telling all parties to avoid violence.

For now the situation is tense. The Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah are ready, for anything. Nobody knows what will happen next.
