Iran Grants Russia Exemption from Strait of Hormuz Transit Fees

In April 2026 Iran said that Russian ships can go through the Strait of Hormuz without paying anything. The Strait of Hormuz is water between Iran and Oman. It connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. The Strait of Hormuz is a deal for ships that carry oil and gas. What happens at the Strait of Hormuz affects the energy supply of countries.

At first Iran wanted to charge all ships that use the Strait of Hormuz. Now Iran is making an exception for ships. This is not the time Iran has let ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz for free. Long as the ships do what they are supposed to do Iran lets them go through. Iran has been trying to make money from ships that pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran wants to be in charge of its waters at the Strait of Hormuz that is why Iran has been doing this. The Strait of Hormuz is very important, to Iran.

Russia gets to pass through the Strait of Hormuz for free. Why is that? It is because Iran and Russia are friends now. They work together on things like defense and energy. The Iranian ambassador in Moscow said that Russian ships will not have to pay the fees. He also said that other countries that are friends with Iran might get deals too.

This agreement between Iran and Russia says a lot about their relationship.

  • Iran and Russia are clearly becoming friends. They are working together on more things.
  • Iran is showing that it is willing to help its friends like Russia.
  • Some countries are probably not happy that Russia gets treatment. They still have to pay to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. It does not seem fair to them. What happens at the Strait of Hormuz is not news. If Iran increases the fees for ships the prices of oil and gas could go up over the world. Countries that rely on energy from the Persian Gulf might be affected a lot.

There is also a question about whether thiss fair or not. International law says that ships can pass through waters long as they follow the rules. If Iran charges some countries and lets others pass for free people might think it is unfair or even against the law.

All of this is happening while things are getting more tense in the Middle East. There are wars and military buildups and now Irans new fees for ships. All these things are making the situation more complicated. Irans decision to give Russia a break is making things more complicated.

It is not clear how other countries will react to this deal. The United States might not like this deal between Russia and Iran. It could affect their interests in the area. Some countries might try to negotiate their exemptions. They might want perks.

Irans decision to exempt Russia shows how complicated things are in the Middle East. Countries are always changing their friends. Trying to figure out who is who.

What is going to happen ? Nobody really knows. The Strait of Hormuz is an important place for energy in the world. Anything Iran does there affects the world. Iran and Russia are getting closer because they both benefit from it.

So what is happening is that Iran wants to charge ships that go through the Strait of Hormuz.. Russia does not have to pay. Iran and Russia are friends. That is why Russia gets treatment. The Strait of Hormuz is a deal because so much oil and gas goes through it. What happens there matters to Iran and Russia. Just about everyone else. The Strait of Hormuz and what happens there is very important, to Iran and Russia and everyone else.
